Igniting Ideas: A Year of Client-Inspired Database Enhancements

Igniters was created with one goal in mind: to listen to client needs and craft solutions that address them. Time and again, we heard the sentiment, “I wish I had known about this sooner,” which inspired us to create a platform to share these valuable insights with everyone. With clients spanning the globe, we’re privileged to witness firsthand how churches are innovating to serve their congregants. In this year’s review, I’m excited to highlight the most requested updates from our blog, showcasing the solutions that had the biggest impact.

Staff Transitions:

Our most requested update this year was the Staff Transitions process, highlighted in this blog article. Managing security roles is a critical concern for clients who want to maintain a secure database. With frequent changes in staff and volunteer positions—whether due to temporary leave, onboarding, or offboarding—this can be a challenging task. The process outlined in the blog offers a dashboard equipped with tools to streamline these transitions, providing a clear view of where individuals hold security roles, leadership positions, or connection requests within Rock. Learn more about it here.

UI Enhancements:

Who doesn’t appreciate a thoughtfully designed User Interface (UI)? This year, we’ve featured a series of simple yet impactful improvements across three different blogs, all aimed at helping you work more efficiently. Here are a few highlights:

  • In our blog about fee tracking, we introduced a new feature on the registration page—a block that provides a quick overview of registrations with outstanding fees. Not only can you see the total amount due at a glance, but you can also identify who owes those fees. You can even access the person’s registration directly from the provided list, reducing the risk of errors and ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.

  • In that same blog, we introduced another valuable feature for the registration instance page. This new block displays the Registration Instance Totals, offering a comprehensive view of total amounts, including any applied discounts. This addition allows you to quickly assess the financial details of your events, all in one convenient place.

  • Another blog showcased enhanced search functions for the workflow and registration pages. We’ve all had those moments when finding a specific item should be simple, yet it feels like a scavenger hunt through endless breadcrumbs. Now, with the ability to quickly search for a workflow or registration, you have one of those “wish I had this yesterday” tools at your fingertips. You can learn more about this invaluable feature in our UI enhancement blog here.

  • One of our recent blogs introduced an enhancement you didn’t know you needed but won’t want to live without. This tool allows you to find every group of a specific group type with just one click. By selecting "View Groups," you can instantly access a list of all groups of that group type, each with a direct link for quick navigation.

Church-wide Profile Updates:

Accurate information in Rock begins with the person profile. When these details are outdated or incorrect, it can lead to inefficient communication and disrupted processes. While the MyAccount page allows users to manage their information through a login, many churches—especially those new to Rock or cautious about adding another step for users—ask, “How do we efficiently maintain accurate person data?” In this blog, we explore a comprehensive solution to this challenge. By sending a church-wide communication, you can offer everyone a quick and secure way to update their information or request changes for their family, ensuring your database stays up-to-date without adding complexity. Check out the full process here.

Looking Ahead

Starting in January, we’re excited to launch a new blog series focused on streamlining processes in Rock. These articles will provide practical insights to help you optimize workflows and fully leverage Rock’s capabilities. Do you have a process that should be integrated into Rock? Are you manually entering data from multiple external applications? Unsure where to begin? We're here to help you clearly define your processes for events like Baptism and beyond. We'll guide you through essential questions to consider, then ignite the fire for your next steps with articles that share best practices and highlight how other churches are successfully navigating similar challenges. Our goal is to provide the kindling you need to ignite meaningful change.
